Love should be celebrated everyday, not just on Valentine’s Day

Love should be celebrated everyday, not just on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is all about showing your partner how much they mean to you. But sometimes, Valentine’s Day can feel like a lot of pressure. From a single red rose, to a dozen pink blooms, and chocolates to teddy bears, it can be overwhelming trying to create the ‘perfect’ day.

Showing someone you care shouldn’t be defined by the size of your card, or the cost of your gift. And being open about your love shouldn’t end when the roses wilt and the chocolates have been eaten.

Instead, we should celebrate love all year round, and remind those around us just how special they are!

If 2020 taught us anything, it was to appreciate the people around us. Not just boyfriends, girlfriends and partners, but family, friends, colleagues, and the people who go out of their way to make your day that little bit brighter.

If you’re tired of the clichés and are looking for something a little different, we’ve put together a list of ideas that you can use to show ANYONE how much you care, at ANYTIME of the year, regardless of whether or not you’re in lockdown!

  1. Home baking

Nothing says love more than something that’s been handmade and delivered fresh out of the oven! If you’re not a natural chef, start with something simple. After all, cookies can make anyone smile! You could go back to basics with rice crispy cakes or try creating something a bit more exotic, like the vibrant Caribbean classic coconut sugar cake. Take a tin into work, bake a loaf cake and drop it to a neighbour, or leave a fridge cake on a friend’s doorstep. Anyone with a sweet tooth is sure to feel the love.

  1. Thank you messages

It might not sound like much, but everyone loves to feel appreciated. If someone has made your day, handwrite them a note to thank them – and the chances are, you’ll make their day too! Texts and emails are great, but a handwritten note is more personal, takes more effort, and will be remembered for a lot longer than a Whatsapp message. Struggling to know what to say? Take a look at Pinterest for some ideas, or take a look at this list of suggestions.

  1. Gifts that show you care

If you want to buy someone a gift, make sure it’s something that’s perfect for them – and not something you’ve just grabbed off a shelf. Think about when they are at their happiest, and what helps them feel that way. Take time to consider what makes that person tick, and find a present that will resonate with them.

If you know your colleague loves coffee, why not buy them a special blend to have in the morning? If your friend loves to be organised, buy them a planner so they can start thinking ahead. If your partner is always running around after other people, why not buy them our Pure and Real limited edition candle, to help them unwind and take some time out.

  1. Learn a poem

We know this won’t be for everyone, but if someone you know is an old romantic at heart, learning a poem especially for them will always be a winner. There’s a reason so many poems are written about love… Read ‘How do I Love Thee’ by Elizabeth Barrett Browning for some inspiration.

If you’re feeling creative, why not write your own poem celebrating the one you love? Poetry is a fantastic way to express yourself, as well as a great opportunity to spend some time away from the stresses of daily life. Each of our products comes with it’s very own bespoke poem written by our co-founder, Tavinia.

  1. Be generous with compliments

We often notice little things about the people around us, and probably don’t even give it a second thought. But the next time you think ‘I really love those trainers’, or ‘that hairstyle really suits them’, don’t keep it to yourself – say it out loud! Compliments are a fantastic confidence boost, and a great way to make someone feel special.

  1. Listen to what they have to say

The biggest compliment we can give anyone is to let them know that we care about what they have to say. If you’re on the phone, make sure you’re fully invested in the call, and focus on what’s being said. When you send a text message, give your friend the chance to send a genuine reply to the generic ‘how are you doing’: it may be just the encouragement they need to offload, and they’ll be thankful that you were there to listen.

We hope we’ve inspired you to show everyone around you how much you care on Valentine’s Day and beyond!

If you’re doing something special with the people you love this weekend, please leave us a comment or connect with us on socials to tell us what you’ve got planned, we’d love to hear from you!
